A word from the Chef:
‘Fusion food can quickly turn into confusion…
So I have decided to approach ‘fusion’ a little differently. The idea is to take known Japanese dishes and their aesthetic, reworking them with classical middle-eastern flavor.
It’s still an Iftar that we are bringing you – taking what’s essential in food - pleasure, sharing and journey.
This unique Japanese Iftar structure will surprise your pallet reinventing Arabic flavors in a new and exclusive version never done before.'

OPEN TENT is back at Alserkal Avenue. A cross-cultural Ramadan Iftar and dinner experience, brought to you by CHI-KA; a kimono shop and art space based in Alserkal Avenue, in collaboration with creative think tank The Lettuce Lab.
This year we have teamed up with Swiss-born chef Michael Fessler, known for his creativity and international “savoir faire”, to create a stimulating culinary menu that brings together Japanese and Middle-Eastern cuisine with an out-of-the-box twist. Live cooking stations for 'a la minute' dishes will be complemented with a self-serving buffet.
Kava & Chai cafe and coffee house also joins OPEN TENT in a relaxed setting surrounded by minimalist decor, creative interventions, bonsai gardens, conversation tables, calligraphy murals and live oud nights.
Expressing universal values of cultural tolerance, compassion and community building, OPEN TENT is a welcoming space, bringing together families and friends of all ages from around the world.
Next to OPEN TENT, an artistically imagined prayer room (W61) will showcase masterful carpets, while a series of post-Iftar activities will be held throughout the Avenue.
The team at OPEN TENT and its collaborators look forward to sharing this precious experience with you.
